Start with the type, not the gift
A digital advent calendar can hold more than a paper one. In Wrappie each window holds one thing: a photo, a voice note, a round video, a note, a coupon, a hint to a real gift, a song or a question. You can also present a day in a special way, as a sealed letter, under scratch foil or as a puzzle.
Mixing types is what keeps people curious. If every day is a photo, by the tenth they know what’s coming. Alternate quick days with ones that take a minute, and keep the bigger moments for weekends and the 24th.
Ideas by window type
Each idea comes with a one-line example you can use as it is.
Photo
- 1A photo from the same day years ago
“5 December 2019: our first snow in the new flat.”
- 2Then and now
The same place or pose, years apart.
- 3A photo they’ve never seen
The one you took of them when they weren’t looking.
Voice note
- 4Good morning
“Morning! Coffee’s on me today. Well, in spirit.”
- 5Your favourite memory, told out loud
One minute, no script, just the story.
Round video
- 6A short hello
Ten seconds of you waving from wherever you are today.
- 7A message from someone else
Ask a friend, a parent or a colleague to record one.
Note
- 8Things I love about you
Three small, specific ones, not the obvious.
- 9A tiny poem
Four lines, it doesn’t have to rhyme.
- 10A compliment they’ll remember
“You make every room calmer.”
Coupon
- 11Breakfast in bed
“Valid any Sunday in December.”
- 12A free pass
“One evening off from anything you don’t feel like.”
- 13A date you plan for them
“Saturday, 7 pm. Dress warm. The rest is a surprise.”
Real gift
- 14A real present, hidden at home
“Look behind the books on the second shelf.”
- 15Something they’ve wanted all year
The thing they mentioned once in March.
Song
- 16Your song
A link to it, with a line on why it’s yours.
- 17A song for today
Something for a cold walk or a long drive.
Question
- 18A question about the future
“Where should we be this time next year?”
- 19A question about the past
“What was the best day of your year?”
- 20A small decision
“Tonight: pizza or soup?” Their answer decides.
Letter
- 21A longer letter
The one you’d write if you had a whole page: it arrives sealed in an envelope.
- 22The Christmas Eve letter
Keep the most personal words for the 24th.
Scratch card
- 23A coupon under foil
They scratch the foil away to see what it is.
Puzzle
- 24A photo in pieces
A picture to put back together before they see it.
How to plan all 24 days
Write the 24 dates down and fill the fixed ones first: weekends for real presents and coupons you’ll redeem together, the 24th for a letter. Then add the photos you already have and use voice notes, questions and small notes for the gaps. Most people finish in one evening, or in a few short ones.
You can start filling now and stop at any point: everything is saved, and you carry on later from the same private link. Once the calendar is sent you can still change any day they haven’t opened.
Questions
Do I have to fill all 24 days?
No. You can send the calendar with only some days filled and add the rest later, before their day comes.
Can a digital advent calendar include real presents?
Yes. A real-gift window gives a hint where you hid something, and they tap “I found it” when they have it.
What if I start in December?
That’s fine. Days that have already passed open at once, and the rest open one a day until the 24th.
Does the person need an app?
No. The calendar is a link that opens in any browser on a phone or a computer.
